Harolyn Salandy

Hi, my name is Harolyn Salandy. I make my own laundry detergent and I absolutely love chocolate ice cream.

As a single mother of two who works full time, I have to constantly balance my time with my kids, family and friends, my profession, and staying fit. While this can be difficult at times, I have been able to do it only through discipline, diligence, and focus.

When I am not exhausted from my daily activities, I enjoy reading, writing and spending time with family and friends. My favorite thing to do for myself is running and staying active. I am blessed to be a 7- time marathon finisher, including the Boston Marathon in 2017.  I have also completed numerous half marathons, 10K and 5K races where I regularly finish in the top 3 for my age group. Other fitness activities include obstacle races and duathlons.

The constant requirement to manage my life has led me to find healthy and effective ways to overcome challenges such as divorce, death, and the many other stressors that accompany major life events. Through it all, I have been blessed to lead a successful and fulfilling life.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Trinity International University with a Masters in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelors in Information Systems from Florida International University.

I was born in Liberia, West Africa but Miami has been home to me for almost 30 years, with most of those years spent living or spending time in Kendall. I remember my first apartment was on the corner of 147th Avenue and Kendall drive back in 1992 when rent was just under $500 per month.

While much has changed in the cost of living,  when I pass by the apartments, I am still reminded of the benefits of living in Kendall and why I have enjoyed it for as long as I have.
