Written by: Sugeyrie Santiago

Hey there Kendall! My name is Sugeyrie Santiago and one of my passions is building meaningful relationships with the people that come into my life whether it is on a personal or business level. That is why I found it important that to write the Five Simple Tips to Grow Long-Lasting Business Relationships. I hope they help!

A relationship by definition is the way two or more people are connected, or the way they behave toward each other; the state of being connected.

It is my experience that when we really get to understand some of the building blocks of relationships,  we start to value them differently. It still amazes me to witness (particularly in business) how some professionals don’t prioritize establishing long term client relationships.

Professional Life

As a professional in real estate, providing exceptional service and creating a long lasting relationship with both my clients and colleagues is my ultimate goal.  At the end of the real estate purchase or sales process I want to make sure my clients have felt valued, understood and satisfied with my services. The relationship does not end at the closing table.  The connection made through and after the process is priceless to me and can be to every business professional.

Behind every business you will find that there are people. The relationships those people maintain serves as the center of a functioning entity.  Real Estate is no exception to the rule. I’m sure you have heard the philosophy and cliche that successful businesses are built on good relationships.

Living With and Incorporating Trust

And, what are good relationships built on?  You got it, TRUST! So, how do we get to that level?  Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered! Here are the five best tips I have used to establish trust in business relationships:

Five Simple Tips to Grow Long-Lasting Business Relationships

1. Honesty

This may sound like such ancient advice, but… honesty really is the best policy.  We live in a world of smart consumers so don’t under estimate your clients. Information is widely and readily available.  We connect on social media to ask questions and are rewarded with a plethora of answers. Don’t try to deceive your clients.  Social media, word of mouth and google are the consumer BFF’s. They will eventually find out and that’s going to hurt the relationship in the long run.

2. Communicate and Listen

Communication is one of the most important factors in building trust.  Ask questions and listen carefully to the answers. This is how you will get to know their needs, dreams and values.  By knowing the answers to key questions you will be able to provide exceptional service and gain their trust.

3. Integrity

Be authentic and transparent.  Honor your word. If you say you’re going to do something, Do it!  If you have to take it back, Own Up to It! This will help you build character and gain respect.

4. Be Intentional

Do more than just get by.  Do what’s hard. Engage and interact actively with your clients.  Ask yourself…. Are my actions in the best interest of my clients or of my own?  Am I being purposeful in word and action? Reflect on the answers. We are conditioned to be self-serving.  Be different.

5. Be Positive

Studies have shown that people with positive personalities are happier, hopeful and grateful.  Emanate the energy and confidence that you want your clients to feel about you and your work. Passion and sincerity are attractive traits that will naturally draw and connect the right people to you.
