Breaking News: Kendall Parkway

From the office of Commissioner Martinez

The residents of Miami-Dade County greatly benefited today by Leon Circuit Court Judge John Cooper’s ruling which found that the Legislature overreached their authority when it passed House Bill 385 finding it unconstitutional and a clear violation of our Home Rule Charter. The Kendall Parkway, a priority for this County, would have alleviated our traffic congestion in West Kendall, yet its construction was not included in the bill. Today, as a result of the court ruling, our Home Rule Charter was upheld and the rights of our residents and the County’s authority to manage its affairs were protected.

Although the court ruled in our favor, the Governor and State Legislators may appeal the ruling. I will continue to work for all the residents of Miami-Dade County and the preservation of the Kendall Parkway to urge the Governor and the Legislature not to appeal this ruling.
