Cheri Vice, Community, Get Together for Mural Painting at Briar Bay Park

MIAMI – On Monday, April 22, 2019 at 4:30 p.m., the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department will join Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava (District 8) at Briar Bay Park, 9000 SW 128 St., Miami, to officially dedicate the park’s newly completed recreational amenities, designed to inspire residents and their children to spend more time outdoors with nature.

The 4.75-acre park received new outdoor musical playground equipment manufactured by Freenotes Harmony Park™ that includes tuned drums, a Yahtzee, and a duet.  The site rests on new engineered wood-fiber (EWF) and rubber play surfaces that blend into the park’s natural environment, which includes a large tree canopy and newly added earth berms, Live oaks, and butterfly-attracting plants like bougainvillea and fire-bush.

*There is also a new butterfly-themed mural (210 x 5-ft) created by Cuban-American, Miami born visual artist/muralist Cheri Vice. Arvida Middle School teacher Jovany Corzo and several middle and high school students lent a hand in the painting.  Details here.

Other new park amenities include an adjacent picnic shelter with a double barbeque grill and picnic tables, trash bins, bike racks, a water fountain, and park benches. The park also contains an existing playground, a lighted walkway, and picnic spots.

The cost of the new development was $328,000.  Funding was provided by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program (BBC-GOB) and Impact Fees.

“Briar Bay Park is a precious gem for this community and these upgraded amenities enhance the natural beauty of this park, offering visitors a refreshing retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday living.  I highly encourage residents and their children to make regular visits. Please help us spread the good news!” said Commissioner Levine Cava.

“Park improvements like these truly connect children and families with nature through play and are helping to build new generations of environmental stewards,” said Miami-Dade Parks Director Maria I. Nardi.
